Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are
surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses [the guys in the previous chapter],
let us throw off
–everything that hinders and
–the sin that so easily entangles,
and let
us RUN with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Let
us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith,
who
for the joy set before him endured the cross,
scorning its shame,
and
sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men,
so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. This was the focus of Pastor Bruce’s Lord’s Supper homily yesterday…a message well spoken. I am terrible at running. I am lousy at persevering. I am trying to meditate on this through the coming week. But fixing my eyes on Jesus: I can start there everytime. Reminds me of the refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.OK, one foot in front of the other.

Why do your posts like this always make me cry? Thank you for posting this. I too struggle with the focus stuff. There are so many things to worry about, aren’t there? Airplane rides, dentists, relational garbage, dentists. (Did I already mention the dentists?)
I can’t begin to tell you how many times I chant to myself, “God is in control.” It is a very important truth to which I cling when I feel everything is out of control. And really, isn’t everything already out of my control all the time? So, when that terrifying fact really hits home, I remember that God is not mocked and God is in control. Once I remember this is true, usually the rest falls away more easily.
Love ya the mostest, chicklet! Keep strong in the Lord!
I am embarrassed to say that O’Connor is among the many “classics” I have not read. Thank my odd public school education for that, I suppose. We read so few classics! So I am trying to rectify that now. This book at HPB was only about six bucks and in great shape! I am still reading Meyer’s Twilight (YA fiction) and now also slowly starting Lehane’s Mystic River (which is so effortlessly written). If you keep getting books you don’t like, I should lend you a few good ones I’ve been reading! Or hit a library like Addie and I do! (Oh, did I tell you now we can get Carnegie Library cards in Allegheny County for free? Used to be $30 for out of county residents, but with our Access Pa. cards from up here, it’s free! So I have a shiny black library card for when I come visit down there now!)
