  • Tomorrow is Friendship Day at Covenant Fellowship, where I attend church. It is a day that happens twice a year where we make a point to invite visitors, knowing that it will be a extra-welcoming environment.

I have discovered that it is easier to invite friends and relatives this day, because all you have to say is “My church has a special friendship day next. Wanna come?”

Also, I have the confidence that it will be somewhat comfortable for visitors. Pastor Hemphill always tries to preach a shorter, more evangelistic sermon. There is always a scheduled testimony that is shared about how someone either came to Jesus Christ or how learned more about Him. It is still a worshipful experience for us that already have a relationship with Christ. Afterward, there is a time for light refreshments, conversation, and “favors.” Tomorrow, everyone that attends will receive a little, decorated gift bag with bulbs for planting.

If you think of it, pray for the many non-Christians that will attend. I invited my international Chinese student friend. She agreed to come! I met her through an international student ministry—PRISM. She let me know that she is “not religious,” even though she knows some about Christianity. She and another Chinese couple who are visiting with Joel and Autumn (Neely) Butler will come to our house for lunch. Pray for the conversation. Pray for the souls of the visitors. Thank you.

Pastor Hemphill’s dad died today. He was an exceptional believer. He stood up after Communion more than once and testified how the sacrament increased in significance and blessing as one aged. I will miss Ray. God blessed many people through him. How do we continue in strength without him? God will provide, but it is painful. Pray for the Hemphill family.
