  • We’re camping this weekend with church folk. The boys will join us later. They are seeing Project 86 and Spoken at a local club–plus two other Christian bands.

I’m looking forward to roasting chicken over a fire, wailing silly songs to the strum of a guitar until the ranger’s flashlight searches us out, inhaling nippy, leafy air, and snuggling with my sweetie in an ancient canvas tent, smelling of s’mores and smoke. *sigh*

Gabaldon’s newest novel is number one on the NYT bestseller’s list for hardback fiction this week, and I am on page 127–out of 1150 or so. I was shocked (and awed) to see Covenanters mentioned, including a rendition of the two Margarets’ story, several pages back. I had given Gabaldon a Scottish Covenanters book when I attended a book signing in Cleveland (2001?). I’d like to think that she kept and used the book. Who knows? By the way, Gabaldon is for the married folk and the strong of gut. I am not making a general recommendation for the book.

OK, first one to the fire pit, gets to start the fire!

  • Hello! Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great day! I loved your trick to remember my age. I do the same thing for myself, my mom, and my maternal grandpa (23, 43, and 63).

My Sister’s Keeper was good. The topic intrigued me, which was the main reason why I picked it up. The ending was quite unexpected and through me for a loop. I wouldn’t say the author is overall a great writer, but I did enjoy reading it and am interested in her other books (she’s apparently written a dozen or so).

Hope you all are well. Take care!

  • See, now here’s the weird thing, Lynne. My Gabaldon book goes up to about page 978 or so — not 1,150. Do we have the same book?? I do see that, when listed online, they say the book has 1,150 pages, though I haven’t a clue where they get that number from. Perhaps the British edition or the German edition have that many pages. But the American edition I have doesn’t hit 1,000. Please confirm discrepancy, dearie, before I worry that I’m missing something.

  • So, are yunzes movin to the South then? Maybe your car can break down on the way and you’ll have to live with us for a year. 8-) Glad you received Southern hospitality, even from me kin folk! Tell hubby that he best beware. I just bought a scanner, so incriminating pics of him from his college youth may be circulating the Internet in no time at all! I’ll add gray and wrinkles, though, so people recognize him–I’m THAT good with Photoshop. –Pigeon
